Day 4 Results

Just one note from these games and I hate to be overly critical but Vietnam need to step up their game. A 6-1 loss to Hungary is a bad result. This could get ugly.

I watched the Vietnam vs. Hungry. It was honestly slower pace than a women's game. Both these teams are going to get crushed by Germany, Poland, and Nigeria. Vietnam is by far the worst team in the tournament. I would avoid watching the Poland vs. Vietnam. The result is going to be like 15-1. If Vietnam can even get one. They scored a penalty on Hungry. Come on now. I don't think the guys on Vietnam care all that much. They just come out and play, that's about it.

The crappy part is that those top teams needs the +/-. Neccessary evil, but it will be ugly.

Can Poland be the first team to win 20-0?

Anonymous said...

Vietnam will be the Scotland of the last 2 years. Tough pool where +/- is important and they need to rack up the score.

I fully expect Poland to win the final 20-0. So the answer is yes!

Poland is definitely beating germany 6-0 and will beat Portugal 8-1, Vietnum 20-0 and Hungary 10-0, then will beat Sudan 3-1 and will be on our way to the finals

There has been so much talking going on on all these blogs and I've hesitated to make any comments, however this last comment by GOW on Norway's blog is uncalled for and unnecessary. I think people have forgotten what the purpose of this event is/was. This event was set up to give a people a chance to represent their nationalities as many of us come from different parts of the world. This event was set up to bring people together and stop the concept of racism that has been going on for years, it has been set up to display the type of country Canada really is by allowing so many people to a wonderful world of opportunities and equality. All this talk and this whole event has completely forgotten what the real purpose is. It is sad to hear comments like that and to talk about people the way people are talking on here. Yes I understand for some of you this is just a fun game of trash talking one another but sometimes people cross the line.

People talk about Vietnam, Somalia, Greece, Afghanistan, Botswana and others how much they suck and how they should not be part of the tournament at least they are proud to actually represent their home land, they might get beat at the game but at the end of the day they are proud of representing their community. We have 20 teams on the tournament and out of those teams can you actually tell me that the majority of the people playing are actually from that country??? I highly doubt it so before people start talking sit back and think before you talk. Anyone could win this tournament if they gather the best teams around Sask, Alberta and even other parts of the country and called themselves whatever country they want. At least some of these teams competing are actually trying to represent their country.

On a different note depending on how everything plays out I see the top 4 teams making it to the semi’s will be ROI, Sudan, Laos and Nigeria.. Just my thought of watching the first few games however there is still a lot of soccer to be played.

I think it's to be expected that first year teams like Vietnam and Hungary will have a tough time playing against veteran teams that have been in the tournament for a while, but where else do we start? I understand there would be alot of extra work in adding a relegation pool, but I think that's the answer to having top quality matches in the prelim round.

Good comment.. only one your predicition for the semi's is abit off, only because Sudan and ROI play against nigeria's group in the quarters. That being said, either ROI, Sudan or Nigeria will be elminated in the quarters because they will be playing each other ( assuming that they make it to the quarters )

You've got to love our polish friends, win a game or two then start talking smack, there's no way you beating Germany 6-0 it will be a close game and if all Germany players ate around for the game, then this is another tie game for u

Sigeunza... I am not sure if you realize this but Sudan, ROI, and Nigeria can't all make the semi finals.
I may be mistaken but if Sudan finishes second and Nigeria finishes first that means they play in the quarters and one of your top 4 teams is eliminated.

Here's how I see the play-offs shaping up:

ROI vs Germany/Poland- ROI
Nigeria vs Sudan - Sudan
France vs Jamaica - France
Laos vs Norway/ES/Greece - Laos

Your top 4 teams will most likely be ROI, France, Laos, and Sudan... yet I see Sudan possibly faltering and allowing Nigeria into the big show.

Yes and no to your point about heritage... if the rules were stricter, then some countries would struggle to field teams... and then you would still be losing teams, but now it wouldn't be based on caliber... it would be based on the lack of numbers available. Other cities have bigger populations and the same tournament, and still you find a few teams that are the class of the lot... India was the class of the lot in Edmonton for a few years and the complaints were that their best players weren't heritage, yet everyone else was... so someone will always complain about something irregardless of the changes that are made.

Nigeria looked horrid last night, no idea how Poland tied that team. But even if they make it out of their group, Nigeria ROI and Sudan can't all be in the semi's

I watched Nigeria's game against Vietnam, Nigeria won 13 or 14 to 0. I don't think Nigeria was really playing, looked more like a practice for them, very boring game. I saw the Poland Nigeria game, I think Nigeria dominated Poland. I'm not sure why people think Poland is so good, i think poland was lucky Nigeria didnt score more goals. I don't think Poland will be Germany, Germany and Nigeria should make it out of the group... But will be a tough 1/4 for them.
I feel really bad for Vietnam and Somalia. Hope tonight's games are more exciting. Jam vs NIR, Laos Vs Col.

Julio no I didnt realize as I don't look to deep into where everyone is going, as I said depending on how it plays out.. The only reason I chose those were because they have been exciting teams with lots of talent..

My main comment was because of a post GOW left but has been deleted now..

Poland didn't win our first game because we were missing Brett our best player but our frustrations will be felt by the next few teams we playing next and Germany is good but not that a threat if we play our game, but am sure they will give us a good game, Hungary and viet num have no chance, Portugal will be an ok game but definitely a win for us, and whether it's Sudan or ROI we not scared of them

Poland didn't win because you didn't have Brett? Poor excuse. Should of still beat nigeria. I would say you'd have more of a chance of winning if u played Jay upfront. Although Jay can play anywhere.

Are you saying Poland are done then? As Levis' won't be making any games unless you guys make the final! He said he might come to the Germany game but 90% chance he isn't. He has other commitments and has already told your coach. Very smart decision for him to not play as he has a Whitecaps scouting combine thing coming up and its not worth the risk him getting hurt.

Brown were u even at the poland game? Those guys are not as good as everyone thought they would be and if Brett is not showing up for the Germany game, then i don't see them winning this game because germany is way better than Nigeria in every aspect of there game, I saw Nigeria dominating Poland , and if a good team like Germany plays there game, then Poland has no chance

Anonymous said...

Nope i was not! But since they are the best team in the tournament they should beat everyone!!

Weird you say that "poland aren't as good as everyone thinks" ;)

Julio,

Good post, but can you explain the difference between "regardless" and "irregardless"?

Thanks,
Nate

Anonymous said...

Nate,

Regardless is for guys like DG that pass out before midnight, irregardless is for those that go all night. I hope that clears it up for you.

Julio

Ah, so that's why my dictionary struggled with irregardless. Must only be familiar with the DG types.

germany is going to walk all over poland, no chance poland wins that game. Germany and nigeria going through in this group

Captain kirk says all the troops will be there on Friday vs Poland so we should expect a real treat, it should be a great game, don't miss it

"Poland didn't win our first game because we were missing Brett"

Didn't see that one coming.

all the guys that care about how many goals Vietnam or Korea or Somalia loses don't know the meaning of this tournament. Its all about representing your heritage and while playing the popular game of soccer. As team Vietnam builder, my goal for this tourny is not to win the tournament(cuz we know we don't have a shot) but to go out there to have fun and have people in the Vietnamese community be part of something wonderful such as the wcp. For you to say we might lose 20-0 is fine, but don't judge us for playing to our best of our abilities. If its all about soccer, then wcp should no longer need to include the heritage part anymore.
