2012 Tournament MVP's

After the 2012 tournament the MVP's were never named. The WCP Cup plans to award the MVP's of the tournament on Friday at the WCP Opening Ceremonies. So I thought we should discuss who is deserving of the title. First we will look back at the previous MVP's.

2011

Men's - David Brown (ROI) - Deserving. Probably the most deserving ever as he was in super form this year. As I have stated before no one will ever score that many goals in a single tournament. Some of the best we will ever see.

Women's - Meghan Cormier (Germany) - Deserving. As stated before Cormier is a stud. Seems to be able to do pretty much whatever she wants just about every year and this year was no exception.

2010

Men's - Scotty Myrah (Laos) - Undeserving - Sorry Scotty but really.... he worked extremely hard and really epitomized what Laos are about but he didn't score many goals or really do anything too spectacular. This one should have gone to Evan or Brown.

Women's - Tegan Koroluk (Ukraine) - Deserving. From what I remember scored a few goals and capped that off with a big game in the final. Pretty obvious choice.

2009

Men's - Josip Coric (Saudi Arabia) - Debatable. The only Men's player to have ever won it without his team winning or making the final. This was the year they upset France to make it to the semis but does that mean a MVP? He also won golden boot but that stat was massively buoyed by scoring a bunch in a high scoring 3rd place game.

Women's - Lara Guzik (Germany) - I can't say. Unfortunately I didn't focus enough on the Women's side to give an educated assessment.

2008

Men's - Jay Tomchuk (ROI) - Deserving. In the years before David Brown played for ROI Jay was their striker. He piled in the goals and scored all of ROI's goals in the final. Easy choice.

Women's - Keisha Riddel (El Salvador) - See 2009.

*Note 2008 was the first year the tournament MVP award was awarded. Before that it was just the Final MVP.

So there is the former MVP's. Time to discuss 2012's candidates.
Mens

Tong Tong (Sudan) - He was pivotal in Sudan winning the tournament. I think it is safe to say that if it was not for Tong Tong's height they would not have been able to play the style they did and therefore Sudan would have no chance of winning. My money's on him.

Noor Mitri (Sudan) - Not a favorite among blog visitors Noor rode a sensational wave of form right through the tournament. Noor played out of his mind in the final making several huge saves. He deserves the credit.

Evan Campbell (Laos) - Evan was as good as he always is last year. Had to play in a series of tough games just to make the final. Evan is the back bone of the Laos team and 2012 was no exception.

Nathan Reis (ROI) - Won the golden boot last year and if history dictates anything he at least merits consideration. ROI's style means they need that big lone striker up front and who better the occupy that role. He's a long shot to win it.

Womens

Meagan Cormier (Germany) - Meagan won the golden boot last year and let's face it she was just on another level from everyone else. Pretty much just runs the show and does whatever she wants. Pretty much a shoe in the win.

Sarah Novak (Ukraine) - An underdog to win the MVP when compared to Cormier maybe. However, Sarah has one good thing going for her, her team won and to the winner generally goes the spoils. Sarah's goalscoring record may not jump off the page but on the other side of the ball she's a star. There is a reason Ukraine concede so few goals and Sarah is a huge part of that.

Well there it is..... the candidates. Weigh in and let us know who you feel is most deserving!

Evan is a super duper cry baby!!! I think his mommy still changes his diaper!!! What a joke! As for Big Nathan Reis... the only thing that he may be able to carry is a six pack and a bucket of fried chicken as he looks quite chunky!!!

My MVP candidate: The Three Fat Bald Triplets on ROI!! Those three twins deserve an award for something!!!

Thanks for following my career so closely Dwayne! Don't know who you are but I always like to hear from fans, especially those who hold truths and not just opinions.

Joker it had been a while since you called me fat. Was starting to worry. Glad to have you back!

Unfortunately Big Nathan Reis there have been a few people trying to steal my persona that you know when it is I posting!!!
We both know that you are a fat mess, and I am counting down the days till I get to see how much more plump you have become!!!!
All this hype that David and Mike are giving you is only going to hurt you in the long run!! People will start looking for this MVP caliber player and realize that it is you.... a big fat JOKE!

That's cute that you wait all year for this, even going so far as to count down the days! Gotta give credit to the true fans of the tournament. If it wasn't for people like you, the tournament wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable. Maybe we can go for KFC some time.

What career is there to follow? All you need is one look at you Nathan and it is evident that you are not much of a player. You are very awkward with the ball and lack a lot of technical ability. You have one strength and that is your shot.
Your physique is disgusting as you look like a homeless tele-tubbie.
The only type of candidate you are is for most overrated, follow very closely by Dwanye Gareau.

"Nathan is, has, and forever will be..." sounds like you've been watching me for a while. Surely you wouldn't be foolish enough to rate my skill set and ability on a rec. tournament after I take 6 months off from soccer in the winter. No, the great Dwayne Head would certainly know better than to do that. Wait, who are you again?

If you are truly are a Sask Soccer coach, by publicly running down players with petty name-calling, you would be the one embarrassing himself. That would stand as grounds for dismissal.

I agree I had one stand out game in the final and other than that I wouldn't say I deserved it. That was my only goal of the tournament that year. I would pick Evan over me in a heartbeat. Whoever picked me thought thanks. I will adore that trophy for all eternity! Last year the Sudan #10 would be my pick for MVP he was really good and hard to play against.

MyrahS

Myrah is always my MVP. Why can't a guy that does absolutely anything to help his team win be an MVP? Goal scorers help teams, but takes alot more than goal scorers to win games. I remember that year I was Myrah's boss at work at the time and he told Poncho he was going to man mark me. He pulled me shirt, grabbed my arm, fouled me tome after time. I was thinking, 'this is how you treat your boss?'. But at the end of the day I had nothing but respect for what the kid did to win.

As for Nate only having a good shot, if that's the case what's wrong with that? If he scores 2 out of 3 chances and another player scores 1 of 5, then he's obviously valuable to his team. Personally the thing that impresses me about Reis as much as his goal scoring is how he pressures defensively. The guy is a work horse and earns most of the goals he gets. Does he run it up at times?? Possibly. But a true goal scorer looks to score any chance he gets...not his fault the other team is brutal.

I doubt Those posts are from Dwayne Head. The guy doesn't pay any attention to the tournament at all and barely knows how to do e-mail let alone finding and posting on a blog. Clearly another goof trying to be funny with a pathetic attempt to run down people and bring nothing of real value to the blog.

Not that many are concerned with the Women's side, as stated, but Cassandra Evans deserves props for 2012 female MVP. Top goal scorer of the tournament AND helped take Poland from near dead last to losing a close bronze match.

Thanks again for the blogs. Always enjoy reading them.

Easily the MVP of last year should be Tong Tong.

I think the MVP should come from a team that plays in the final. The player should also be a crucial memeber through out the whole WCP run.

Tong Tong scored many huge goals along the way in helping Sudan eventually win the WCP.

We a manager of the year award so Soheil Summers gets the recognition he deserves.

Anonymous said...

Soheil Summers has indicated this is his last WCP because hes going to do bigger and better things,

what are "bigger and better things"?

hes going to be coaching hotdog eating competitions, theres more $$ and he has great experience in these events

Anonymous said...

Soheil Summers is no manager. He's a dud who thinks he can run a team. He himself ruined Nigeria a few years back. Don't even get me started with how stupid Soheil is. If you have ever played under this guy, you know his philosophy and understanding of the game is absolutely messed up.

I would also like to add that you don't need to score goals to be an MVP. Does that mean if you score goals, you are supposed to be recognized as good? A fat mess could cheery pick up front and score a ton of goals on bad teams like Veitnam and win the stupid golden boot. Get real Collins.

Scotty is deserving of the award and I stand by that. Who cares goal scoring and whatever else. Last I checked soccer was a TEAM SPORT.

If Noor Mitri wins the WCP 2012 MVP I officially boycott this stupid tournament. There's no reason for him to win. A pylon could do a better job goal keeping than that guy. He's all show out there, that about it. Try to make some saves worth talking about. I can name 10 guys more deserving.

Anonymous said...

Ya I talked to him the other day as well, but he said to me Chicken Wings competition is his thing

Anonymous said...

Well if it involves "big" it must have something to do with me.

Nate is probably the biggest idiot on the blog. The second biggest idiots are definitely DG/REIS. Do you guys have nothing better to do than talk about useless stuff? Try to get a job or something. So lame how you post on here every 2 minutes and pretend to be someone else. What's wrong with you guys? Nothing better to do than post on a blog.

i am at work and bored, but thnx for the advice dad

Anonymous said...

I highly doubt that's Dwayne

Anonymous said...

Why are we talking about MVP, oh wait you mean

Most Violent Player

for that no question in my mind it has to be

Jimmy on Greece, wreckless with his tackles left and right

Reis, NR, Nate, Nathan and that guy everyone keeps referring to as 'BIG' are all losers in my opinion. They are shortly followed by that greasy homeless man and the homeless teletubby. DG however is my hero.

Last time I check a golden boot award recognizes the top goal scorers. MVP should be for the player you can count on -- the one that runs their ass off no matter what -- I think that pretty much epitomizes Scotty and others like him. MVP is not always about scoring its about hard work -- not all scorers do that.

MVP of this year

Most Vadge Person- Lee Mooney

congrats Lee, you can pick your prize at the corner of 13th avenue and broad street, the place will have rainbow sign, lots of happy people there

Anonymous said...

To give the MVP to a goal scorer is a joke. Collins once again is sucking up to his buddies. What else is new? This is the case every single year you come here. The guys named are all friends and they all really don't give a shit about anyone but the people in their ridiculous group. THIS BLOG IS BIASED AND ALWAYS WILL BE. THIS BLOG IS FOR THE WEAK MINDED WHO REALLY CAN'T THINK FOR THEMSELVES AND MUST AGREE WITH USELESS LISTS.

Anonymous said...

Once again you come on here contradicting yourself. Please continue to post the same thing over and over again without making a list of the players you think are deserving. It's great that you can come up with half a thought, but why not try to back it up with something? Are you saying this tournament is biased because every single winner of every single award ever given at this tournament are only getting these awards because mike collins is friends with them?

The Joker

Tong Tong doesnt deserve to win the MVP because he scored goals, and anyone who scores goals isn't valuable to their team. If you score a goal in this tournament, consider yourself eliminated from being nominated for the MVP award.

Ya the MVP can be any dud on the street, who cares

I laughed hard at the Lee comment,

Anon 15:40 what are you talking about. I never said that the top scorer should get the MVP. In fact I am pretty sure Tong Tong should and will get it.

As for them all being my friends what can I say? It's a great crew. Me, Tong Tong, Nate, Noor and Evan all hang out pretty much weekly, usually at Smitty's and discuss world politics, finances, and the weather among other subjects. I would you should come sometime but its obviously a very exclusive group.

I've been waiting to get in the Collins/Tong Tong group for years. If anyone gets to go to Smittys it's me bro!

Last time the conversation on world politics got so heated that Mike said we're not his bros. He even tweeted it. Shortly thereafter he thought better of it and rescinded the statement. We're still on for this Thursday?

CRAIG HODEL is going to the win the GOLDREN BOOT and MVP this year. I garantee it. Hodel is a very special player. He has a unique skill set that no other player can match. His ball control is like no other. He has a shot that will destroy even the best goal keepers. HODEL is the quality this tournament has been seeking. HODEL will be the main reason why people come to watch.

CRAIG HODEL - A VERY SPECIAL PLAYER. NO ONE WILL COMPETE.
