Wow! Group D has suddenly become the most interesting group as far as advancement is concerned. The top four teams probably need to win out or they won't get out!

My "Chance to Advance" Rankings:

1. Serbia. Predict they will win their last two games, though Columbia could give them trouble.
2. Ireland. Only a loss to Portugal can stop them. Consider this only slightly more likely than Serbia losing to Columbia.
3. Scotland. Must beat Columbia and Portugal to advance. Consider this just slightly less hard than Portugal's task.
4. Portugal. Two big wins and they would be through. Must win out against Ireland and Scotland. Could happen if they bring their best game.
5. Columbia. Tough loss to Portugal puts them in a bind. Long odds on beating Serbia AND Scotland. Even then it seems unlikely for them to advance. But with at least one win they could be a major player in deciding who actually does get to advance
6. Dijibouti. Could be spoilers if they could beat either Serbia or Ireland. Not expecting this, but I'll be cheering for them anyhow!

Final anaylsis: Watch the Portugal and Columbia games. Even one win by these teams could really change things for everyone in the top 4!

Collins, is there a way to make those standing sheets you posted any bigger? I have bad eyes dude and can barely see anything on them.

You can click on one of the images, then right click the popup that comes up and open it in a new tab or copy the image URL and manually enter it in a new tab.

The new image that comes up can be clicked to zoom in a little further. Still not perfect but at least legible. If you want it larger you'd have to either zoom in on your browser or save the image, open it in a separate program and zoom in there.

Washed up keeper? He's conceded only
3 goals in the group of death. Tell me whose better?

He has played only 2 games, and Laos had a bad game so I wouldn't be hyping this guy up...He hasn't looked good by any means

Anonymous said...

Yah Laos had a bad game? Did you even watch the game? How many saves did he make?

Anonymous said...

Ya I did and when most of shots are directly at him, it's not hard to stop them. A div 6 keeper could of made majority of those saves.

Anonymous said...

Anon 19:10 you are mistaken. A div 7 keeper could have made the majority of those saves. That's how stinking bad he is.

Oops, my bad...thanks for the correction

Haha, I don't think you can judge any player based on this tournament. Especially because there is a select group of quality players scattered among average-terrible players. When quality players play with quality players in a good league then it becomes evident who is actually good. People from outside the province would look at how serious people take this an just laugh (mostly at the negativity and views of idiots who don't know of any world outside the golden walls of Regina) It's the atmosphere(heritage fans),the community and the players competitive nature that make it an enjoyable experience.

Anon 21:35 you have said the most realistic and insightful comment on this whole blog. Respect.

Haha well thanks Julio, I wasn't trying to insult players or anyone who runs the tournament because they do an incredible job and run a truly unique tournament to be proud of in many aspects.
The point of my post was just to show express that many players and coaches who are in this tourney(specifically those who have played at much higher levels at one point or currently do, and because of this get criticized more), play because of the reasons I stated and enjoy it with their Friends/family for the same reasons.
I personally chuckle at the people who just don't understand anything about soccer on a larger scale or think that players are out there trying to prove something to somebody (most of us aren't). Just try to enjoy WCP. But just my perspective.

Agreed, just go out and have a fun time. Enjoy the games. Win or lose, at the end of the day we should all be friends and get along. There are many talented players. We forget to mention a lot of them. Half the players, no one knows their names. You see lots of good teams, and some bad. Support your country, and try your best. If you lose, so what. Every team can't be stacked like Laos.

I think a lo of people share the same opinion as you C.C. and Anon 00:21 but it is hard to see that when a select few come on these blogs and have nothing better to do than post repetitively because no one is paying them attention. Some people get swept away in a whirl wind of emotions for the this tournament, and unfortunately it is for all the wrong reasons.

It just seems that this event is losing a lot of the great environment that it once had, that I actually enjoy the Saskatoon event more these days. The Saskatoon one is still trying to develop as the Regina event is the blue print, but you don't see the same attitudes surrounding the event. At the end of the day it is refreshing to read realistic comments on here as this blogs continues to spiral downwards.

Anyways glad that you guys spoke your minds and I hope the remaining portion of this event is enjoyable for people like you.
