Now I know why Brown was trying to defend that "shirt tugger" DeLong. Scored 4 goals against a weak team, still a garbage striker against anyone relatively good.

Anonymous said...

No way man, DeLong might be a lot of things, but he's one of the best natural goal scorers I've ever seen. The guy has an uncanny knack for putting the ball in the net.

Can someone give a recap of the Jamaica/Canada game? Like were they pretty even? Or was one team dominating, but unable to score? Also, how does ROI look this year? Clearly they can score, but how's their defence?

Anonymous said...

Anon 5:41
BAHAHAHA good one.

Anonymous said...

Anon: 07:20 lets put it this way, Jamaica should have won the game. The ref gave Canada way too much added time. The game was finished. Canada got a late free kick outside the box and scored. Some weak goalkeeping cost Jamaica the game. Canada didn't look that great even though the game was relatively even. Canada capitalized on the bad goalkeeping. Ended up being a 4-4 tie.

Anonymous said...

Anon: 08:28 Thanks, and so Jamaica's defence is really weak then? I know their offence and midfield are quite good, plenty of Huskie players, but their defending and goal keeping could keep them from being a top contender?

The first half Jamaica had all the pressure and Canada looked like they were playing in a panic. I believe it was 3-1 at the half. Canada started playing with more control in the second half and scored a pretty lucky goal off of a sideline kick-in from their own side of half (the Jamaican keeper tried to catch the ball, bobbled it, then ended up catching it after he had stepped back into his own net.. the ball was definitely across the goal line though). The game got really intense from there, with many free kicks for both teams. Tavis hit the cross bar a few times, Andrew and Rolfe missed and hit the wall a few times. Finally, fairly late in the game Tavis put a free kick off the crossbar and in to make it 3-3. Then I think it was Rolfe who hit a beauty into the top corner from a free kick... 4-3 Jamaica. Then Tavis gets another one inside of 2 minutes and scores to tie it up. Jamaica gets one more shot and Andrew puts it off the back wall. Game over.

Saying that the ref gave too much injury time is likely a biased comment from a Jamaica fan. The fact that the game kept going and they did get the final shot shows that, if the game did go too long, it ultimately went in Jamaica's favor because they had the final shot to win the game.

this is such a stupid tournament, its not even real soccer, 20 free kicks in one game, are you kidding me,

Anonymous said...

Anon 14:15 got it right in my opinion. If there would have been extra time I think Canada would have come out on top.

Haha according to the genius in the previous comment, Columbia sucks at soccer. If thats really the case, then what does that say about 1st nations? I honestly thought 1st nations were better, but too bad. Now 1st nation's out, any other Columbian haters that wanna speak out of jealousy?

Anonymous said...

Colombia may not be the strongest team, but they sure have the fans behind them and that is what makes their team strong! They have young talent and some of the older guys are not great, but we gotta admit they have some balls to play their younger players more than most of the experienced ones! I can see colombia being a fans fsvorite but not going far, they definetely have a very hard pool to get out off specially still having to play Saudi and England!

Anonymous said...

that group if anything is mediocore, if u put a team like Germany in that group I am pretty sure they would be at the top

these are the new power rankings according to the most knowledgeable of all football matters - Peter.

1) South Korea - huge improvement from last year, almost hanging with some of the top team. tough pool otherwise the would move out.
2)Scotland (see S.Korea)
3)Serbia - stronger without Darko, almost didn't let Ireland score 8 goals.
4)N.Ireland - clearly the strong Ireland of the tourney - lost some tight games in a tough pool (so close to beating Norway)
5)Greece - proving the best warriors can indeed be the best soccer players too
6)Italy - beat the mighty greeks and even drew the serbians, enough to earn them a spot just below them both.
7)Eritrea - tied the Norwegians, they are not messing around (Botswana reborn?)
8)England - tied FN, lost to Sudan Arabia and should have lost to Afghan (will be placed higher because of their dominance)
9)Norway - the mighty heros have not lost and deserve this place on the list, but will probably drop a few spots after playing Jam and Can, heck even portugal will probably beat them
10)First Nations - tight games in a tight pool with some tight gear
11)Afghanistan - should be beating some of the teams they lost to so their ranking is fair
12)England - at 1-1-1 they can climb higher on the list with a few W's this weekend
13)Portugal - strong showing for the portugese but not quite strong enough, will lose to Eritrea guaranteed
14)Colombia - should beat England but lose to lower ranked Sudan Arabia in last minute tong tong bicycle
15)Nigeria - who knows what will happen in their wack games
16)Germany - low on the list because they only scored 11 goals on scotland
17)Jamaica - should be higher becase of their tight game with the mighty Portugal but they tied poor Canada which drop their ranking
18)France - tied the Heroic Greeks and deserve a higher spot but could only pop in 6 against Serb, game against Irlend should be a snoozer
19)Canada - can anyone say boring? tied Jamaica in a very slow paced and uneventful game BUT they did upset eritrea
20)Laos - 2 goal game against the top dogs in their group (scotland) and shut out s korea which puts saved them from being last on the list
21)Poland - they have beaten two really strong teams and should breeze thru the rest of their pool and move up a few spots
22) Ireland - scored 16 goals against two top teams but their pathetic dfense allowing 2 goals is enough to put them in last

Not sure y people keep calling saudi, sudan arabia??? they have 3 players from the sudan team and thats it.(besides the first game, they had 7 players from Calgary but other 4 didn not play for sudan in previos years) dont see many jamaicans on jamaica and french on france

Colombia is a solid team. I don't know why people are hating on them. They were down 3-1 to First Nations in the first half and came back to win the game 6-4. Nigeria tied First Nations for those of you who didn't watch the game. How many teams in this tournament can come back from 3-1 down to win? The First Nations team has been said to be "great" by many people. It's not an easy pool to be in. Colombia is definitely a fan favorite. They have some hard working players that are talented. They work well as a team.

By the sounds of things, there is a lot of jealous individuals in Regina. Got to love those people. Haters will hate. Regina is full of trash talkers. Half of you people probably play on bum teams. Go Colombia. Don't let these people bring you down. You guys rock!!!

This blog is such a joke. A bunch of people who hide behind anonymous posts and think they are cool because they can talk rubbish about teams and individuals. I come on here to check scores and nothing else. There is no point in having this blog. It's a complete disgrace to the tournament.

Anonymous said...

Since people are trash talking teams, why not trash talk a team who is actually junk ... Scotland for example.

They are a joke. People have hyped them up and said they are getting better every year. Are you seriously kidding me.

Germany took it to them. They got destroyed. Their a bunch of whiny children. Their keeper is the biggest joke and complainer out of anyone on that team. Get a life.

I wouldn't say group D is a great pool as much as it is a very evenly matched pool. The teams that come out of that pool will have trouble in the quarters against the top teams from the other pools but group D has been the most exciting to watch as there have been a lot of very close games.

these are the new power rankings according to the most knowledgeable of all football matters - Peter. (NEW #12 because I messed up and put England twice last time... Peter doesn't fail, Mike probably did that to make me look stupid.)

1) South Korea - huge improvement from last year, almost hanging with some of the top team. tough pool otherwise the would move out.
2)Scotland (see S.Korea)

10)First Nations - tight games in a tight pool with some tight gear
11)Afghanistan - should be beating some of the teams they lost to so their ranking is fair
12)Sudan Arabia - 3-0 in their group, only ranked here because I accidentally put England twice last ranking. Saudi should be way lower as their 3 wins were flukes

Look at the two goal scorers from Saudi game vs afghan. Both Sudan players

disregard that last message I am the real Peter, I tend to agree with the rankings though.

I would like to say that I am seeing professional help about learning the game of "soccer" as well help for being a loser.

I would like to take the time to say/write I am not sorry for what I said about the things about Poland, I still think they are a bunch of turds and will always be.

no one will ever know who I am because I am scared that someone will hurt/harass me.

Can anyone tell me how the women's pools are doing?any surprises or upsets?

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know who is leading golden boot for men's and women's division?

Anonymous said...

Without the stats in front of me I'd say Steve Delong is winning the golden boot so far for men's, and boesch or zapski for girls.

DB

For the women's groups, Hungary beating Ukraine was an upset. Ukraine now HAS to beat Scotland to advance, otherwise it will be Scotland/Hungary. Canada beating Germany was less of an upset and more Canada proving what they can bring, but it's still weird to see Germany on the bubble. Right now Canada, Poland, Holland and Germany all still have a shot to come out of group A.

Mitch Collins is a bloke!
He posts fake Peter comments which he creates himself and doesn't allow the real Peter comments that are bashing him and his fun boys.

I think it will be Canada and Poland advancing from group A and from group B Scotland and Hungary. Just my opinion from the games I have seen.

Anonymous said...

JB, aka Just Brutal Peter is a loser just like you, get a life

signed - everyone

Anonymous said...

Even if Ukraine beats Scotland,I think it will not matter as Hungary already beat Ukraine so if they were to tie on points Hungray would go through based on Hungary beating them

Anonymous said...

Negative. If Ukraine beats Scotland, it will be a three-way tie between them and Hungary. Goals for and against will come into play, and Hungary would be the odd team out. Scotland must beat Ukraine for Hungary to go through.

Mike,
Can you update the Fantasy Draft?
Also, in your opinion, which team has, technically, been playing the best so far?

Thanks

Anonymous said...

This whole tournament would be shit without the Stoon players. Some of you "top notch" regina players should make your way up for our tourney or Barnstone for that matter. Get real.

Mike Collins said...

Fantasy draft will be up once I have yesterdays goal scorers. The best teams I have seen so far are Laos and Jamaica. Although Laos hasn't been great vs the worse teams they were terrific against Germany. They deserve a lot of credit. Jamaica looks terrific but the have the obvious goalkeeping deficiency. Other than that technically they look very astute. Those are the 2 that have impressed me the most.

Mike Collins said...

Golden Boot Leaders are actually Delong and Tayler Firth for Womens if I have my stats right btw.

George said...

For that 3 way tie that is possible in women's group B I see it explained as top team decided by goal difference then for 2nd in the pool would go head to head meaning hungary would get through on beating Ukraine, just my thought
