Top 5 Keepers

1. Evan Campbell  (Laos) - I still think when Evan actually puts forth an effort he is the best keeper in the tournament. He has the size and hands to effectively deal with the thousands of crosses there are per game. So what if he doesn't try every game he plays on Laos so he doesn't need too.

2. Michal Bandula (Poland) - Probably the best shot stopper in the tournament. Michal has great reflexes and knows how to command his back line. If Poland want to go anywhere this year they will have to rely heavily on him.

3. Jonah Gardiokitis (Jamaica) - Jonah is another great shot stopper. Doesn't have the height that Evan has but has great awareness and plays his angles really well. If Michal is important to Poland Jonah is 10 times as important to Jamaica.

4. Jordan Peto (France) - Peto has some big shoes to fill taking over for Tristan but is more than capable. Played really well in the RSA tournament, stopping a penalty in the final. Can have some ups and downs but is generally quite strong.

5. Noor Mitri (Sudan) - I had a hard time remembering what team Noor was on as I think he has played on half of them but I eventually figured it out. I know some people will disagree with this pick but Noor flat out stood on his head last year. You can't argue with results.

David's Picks

1. Michal Bandula (Poland) - Best shot stopper in the province. Also has unreal reflexes. Michal is the key to Polands success and with him in goal I think there chances are good.

2. JD Blakely (Canada) - JD is back in town and after playing the high levels he has it is impossible to leave him off this list. All around skilled goalie.

3. Evan Campbell (Laos) - Evan is a beast. Although my list isnt in any certain order I think the WCP suits Evan more then the other goalies as he is a monster in the air so crosses and long balls into the box he can eat up.

4. Jonah Gardiokitis - Jonah is another goalie who is all around strong. I think Jamaica will be relying on Jonah to win some games for them.

5.Mark Diakiw - Rumor has it Mark maybe picking up the 2nd highest salary at WCP! (Chico obviously highest!). Afghan have offered him a rumored $400 to come play with them. Not sure if he has accepted or not but if he decides to play then he will be on the list.

Ok. I am getting sick of all the finger pointing and accusations going around on this blog. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but yes I have come on to the blogs over the past few years and have posted anonymously while I insult different individuals. I didn't want to put my name on any of the posts as I wanted people to like me even though I secretly disliked them. For that I will apologize because I am disgusted by my own actions.

I am angered how you people have managed to affect my very close friend Craig. He has become so angry and confused that he has made an embarrassment of himself on this blog. Please, and I asking out of the kindness of my heart, please leave Craig alone. He can't really taken this type of attention and has quite frankly dealt with it in a very poor manner.

Two guys that I can't stand are Gordon Peevers and Craig Hodel. I hope that Nathan Reis gets a chance to go at Craig because Craig is one of those try hard players that has never amounted to anything. Shut your mouth Craig as you can't back up anything that you say. Gord glad you finally admitted to being such a punk but it's a little late for that.

I still don't know who Craig is, and apparently I won't find out until the Golden Boot presentation. But I appreciate your honesty Gordie.

The most successful goalies in this tourney are not just good shot stoppers, but the ones who are willing to come out and demand control in their box.

This usually favours the taller keepers or if you are lacking height the ones that have the balls to get up and challenge guys in their box.

To me Michael Bandula would be at the top of the list. Not only does he have great shot stoping ability. He is not afraid to challenge anyone in the air and take control of his box. And most importantly he has the experience in this tourney playing in many big games over the last 2 years.

Evan is a close second, but his only knock would be at times he lacks consistency.

I do like Mike including Noor. The guy may not be the most technical goalie but you can't discount the run he had last year. He was in the right place at the right time and made countless saves. Maybe it was luck, who knows, but he deserves credit for last year. He also is willing to lay his body on the line more than most keepers.

I have not seen JD play for a couple of years but when I did get a chance he was great.

Jonah is an awesome shot stopper, but I would love for him to be more consistent in challenging guys in the air.

I don't remember seeing Peto play.

If Diakw is indeed playing he is the best all around goalie in the tourney.

I can confirm that Diakiw IS playing for Afghanistan. He told me yesterday that he will be receiving financial compensation for doing so. He will be great, as will JD and Michal.

ROI are going to blow without a goalie. Jonah has rescued them so many times in the past I see it being difficult for them to get out of their group. All of the other top teams have a top keeper, Laos, Canada, France, Sudan and Poland. This will for sure be the start of ROIs decline in this tournament.

I thought this was an amateur tournament, no saskatoon players should be allowed to play in this tournament, I think Saskatoon players should go kick rocks and get a life, they are all overrated and think there king sh_t, who won it last yr? not saskatoon players, saskatoon players are cancer, they ruin teams left and right ALL OF THEM

Yeah....I'd be curious to know what SSA thinks of players being paid in a sanctioned AMATUER tournament. Would hate to see WCP take a fine or get lose its sanctioned status....

those are both great lists, obviously Regina and Saskatoon people see a lot more of their own players and goalies so they will have different lists and favorites but its good to see the names chosen and I hope to see some great goaltending in this years tournament. P.S. these keepers make it look easy trust me, hate to be them in this tournament espescially!

Michael Bandula is a dud. He cries when he loses games. Because you play on a top team doesn't mean you are a good goal keeper. Most of these teams in the wcp have weak defense. Watch Jamaica get destroyed out there and Jonah will look like an average keeper at best.

This list is stupid. Same guys on the list every single year. Same everything on this blog every single year. WWWWWWEEEEEAAAAAAKKKK.

Anonymous said...

I must agree ... this blog posts the same "top this and that" every year. It's getting old and very boring. The same people post over and over and over. It's honestly like a broken record on this site. It's not useful at all anymore, other than to get the schedule. I could careless about this blog, and there are tons of other people who I garantee feel the same.

Once in awhile I come on here, and it's the same old b.s.

Anonymous said...

These top lists that you post Collins are so biased. You're missing so much awesome players. You're opinion sucks dude. Then you get your friends to post their garbage and essentially they post the same names etc. Atleast get someone outside of your group to put something up. Change it up. Everyone got their opinion, but these lists are the same garbage with a different order. Not really all that good if you ask me. Try adding for information and more players. Missing a ton of players, half of which are not your friends. For example, Troi on Jamaica. Way better than you in skill and speed Collins. Another guy would be Banerjee. Way more skilled than you, faster, and has definately a more accurate and harder shot than you. All around both of those guys I just named are better soccer players than you, yet they are never named. How stupid do you think people are buddy? Get a life and learn to post better stuff. This crap sucks.

This is the most entertaining thing about wcp right now and always has the most recent updates when the tournament is on. The actual wcp site is terrible, it never has scores and the schedule was posted on there 5 days after it appeared on this one. If you think this crap sucks then don't read it. You people leaving comments on Mike's blog complaining about the content is like knocking on someone's door just to tell them that you don't want to visit them. Nuggets

Don't like the blog? Throw some ideas out there. It's easy to criticize but I need slightly better feedback than that. I will even let anyone write on a subject. Just email it into officialblogservices@hotmail.com and I will post it. You can even post under an alias if you want.

It's hard to find stuff to write about because there really is not much player movement nor is there a large influx of young talent. So if player movement and development is stagnant what would you have me do?

For Anonymous I never said I was better than Troy or Andrew. I did not even put myself on the list. I'm not Darko. I will say this though. I play on Troy and Andrews team and I don't believe even they would say they were better than many of the people on the top 10 list.

I think the list you want me to put up is top players who are better than me. I will just assume from your post that you feel everyone is better than me so... at 23 teams multiplied by 20 players a team I would rank as the 460th best player in the tournament. Hopefully that satisfies you.

Mesh is a fun goal keeper to watch. I have always liked that guy in net. He gives it his all. I think he is underrated and not many people know about him because he plays for such bad teams come wcp cup time. No one really wants to watch those bad teams play. To pay like 10 dollars is a rip off. I usually pick my games based on key matchups. Given the right opportunity I think he could shine on a good team. Nice guy off the field, a beast on the field.

Anonymous said...

-MMMMEEEESSSHHHHHHHHHH is wicked. Makes some killer saves. Too bad he's not on the list. Hard to make a top 10 list of goal keepers for this tournament.

Definition of NETMINDER: GOALKEEPER.

Good job ANON: 16:21. Clearly your IQ is 0.

Nice try buddy. Take your trash to some other blog.

Meshan not your most technical goalie, but he puts in a good effort and makes the key saves when he needs to. When you think the ball is in, he comes up with some crazy way to save it at the last second. It impresses me anyways.

He can sure move for a big fellow.

Does he makes the top 5 list ... probably not. Does he makes the top 10 list ... yes.

Good keepers are hard to find in this competition. I know I wouldn't want to stand in front of some of the offensive guys like Brown, Chico, Tavis, Tomchuk, Josip etc.

HAHA Paco the only good foot work that you have and will need is when you are running away after you realize all the people you keep dissing. There is more than one joker and we would all love to see this fancy footwork you speak of. Maybe try it on the field and see what happens.

I wouldn't bash Flavio Bravo too much as you too are equivalent in skill level and respectability. Are you guys cousins or something too?!?!

Simply LOL. I LOVE THIS BLOG. Thanks Mike for giving us some entertainment to build up to this tournament. Funny thing is that I didn't even know you guys started on this. My wife told me. So MY WIFE CHECKS THE WCP BLOG (mike's) and I am sure so many other spectators. Well done Mike. :)

As for me, I am not technical .I try to be, but its hard after so many years of doing my own thing. Technical is good, but not everything. Understanding the game is far more important. HOWEVER, IT IS NOT LUCK. Please stop saying it's luck. Why? Well because I work my ass off to get fit to be able to play well. Gotta be good to be lucky ;) Unlike big guys / young guys / technical guys.... For me it is a simply equation, be fit and play or do not play at all. I learnt that the hard way getting injuries 3 years in a row in the past.

Cheers to the list of goalies, those boys are simply amazing keepers and it is a total piss off not to have a goal keeper award given the importance of the position. Michael is great, Evan is great, Jonah is great, Mario is great. It is such a personality position. Every keeper is different and brings a different aspect to the field. I watch all of the boys and try to learn something different from each.

Cheers to all and can not wait for another WCP. Let's do this.

Anonymous said...

Good post Noor. This TOP 5 list doesn't do justice at all. There are so many awesome goal keepers missing off the list.

Anonymous said...

If anything the way the tournament is designed they should turf the golden boot since the tournament is designed to see a lot of goals and create an award for top keeper award. It's not easy covering that big of a goal under normal rules let alone making everything direct, etc.

Anonymous said...

I have seen a couple keepers in this league that arent mentioned on this list that should be. They give there heart out there and save their teams big time. A couple of them play in mens Div 3 and i also saw one of them in the MooseJaw tournament on the weekend. I think one plays for Chargers and the other plays for CUFC. I dont know there names but they looked pretty good. I agree their should be a golden boot and a top keeper award...change things up a bit.

Anonymous said...

Noor, you say you train and get yourself fit and all this stuff, but I don't see you playing soccer at all throughout the year. Last time I saw you play, you were on some orange team letting in 4-5 goals a game on the little quarter field nets and losing it on your teammates. Come on man. Training is one thing, but you need to practice and practice with players on the big fields to have a chance at being successful.

Noor, I also don't think your wife coming on this blog is a good thing. It's people like her that make this blog so ridiculous. People with limited knowledge post their crap and have no clue. Half the people on here are probably people like your wife buddy. No offense but that's why this blog is starting to suck. Soccer IQ's of 0 keep posting useless garbage. Entertaining or not, it be nice to get some good information once in awhile.

As for the ANON posting about mens div 3 ... there are a lot of good keepers in mens div 3 not mentioned. Most people don't know those guys so obviously they won't be named on this blog.

Anonymous said...

Any keeper willing to get out there and stop balls on such a big net, get my respect. I don't care if they let in 10 goals or whatever. The fact is, that most people these days have no idea how hard it is to be a keeper. The net is huge, like come on now ...

Anonymous said...

Ya Noor! WCP is serious business. If your aren't working with a personalized coach and physical trainer each day, plus daily practices and playing div. 2 you'll never win the tournament!

Anon 12:33. It's very entertaining that you speak about people with zero soccer knowledge and garbage posts, yet you post such an utterly ignorant comment like that entire post. Mind boggling really.

Anonymous said...

Noor you have no skill and you have no work ethic. You don't even play soccer anymore throughout the year. You just want to get recognized on this blog so you leave your stupid comments and pretend your wife was the one telling you. Yeah right dude.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the shots you save are mainly shot right at you. Anyone can save a ball right at them. There's no luck involved. You just have to stand there like you do half the time. Remember when you played for Chile? YOU SUCKED!!! The only reason you look average out there is because of the defensive guys you have in front you of. If they let guys by, you will get destroyed. I garantee it, unlike some of the other guys mentioned on the list.

Anonymous said...

NOOR it's not luck, it's the ball shot right at you ... ha ha ha ha ha no luck involved.

Anonymous said...

Anon: 13:35 are you Noor's wife? Lame!!!

Noor Mitri said...

If that is your view, you are entitled to it. But get your facts right first, I didn't play AT ALL this year since I have started a family.

Guess what, I did not play at all LAST YEAR neither, yet we won the tournament. I love my team and realise the team is a big part of the success of any keeper not just myself. I did what was expected of me and I am happy with it and at the end of the day I can say I was a champion in WCP history. Can you say the same?

As for spectators getting in here, I believe that is a great thing. Without them this tournament will never be the same.

Keep your opinion as is though even if you think I suck as it doesn't really matter to me. But non the less it is entertaining so thank you for speaking your mind.

We'll see you all in the field and if you beet me good for you, and if I beat you good for me. The field speaks.

Just for the sake of argument, why not post your names so I also know you are as you know who I am? It makes the competition that much better when we face each other.

Anonymous said...

I don't really get your point Noor. You first say it's not luck, then say you aren't good, then say you have to be good to be lucky. So are you good, or not? And are you lucky, or not? And what are you complaining about? Collins put you on his top 5, even though there are obviously over 5 keepers in the tournament that like you admit, are better than you technically. I watched a bit of Sudan's games last year and you would have to admit that you were lucky to make some of the saves you did. You usually plant yourself on the goal line in the middle of the net and the shots seemed to come into your vicinity and you would fling your body and make an amazing save out of nowhere. Mainly due to poor finishing, combined with good reflexes and of course...luck!

Congrats on winning the tournament, but I don't think many teams would be going out of their way to acquire your services (am I wrong?). I can think of several keepers that I would want to face less than you, or want to have on my team before you. No offence to you as a guy (since I don't know you), I am attempting to discuss facts.

I'm sure you are a nice guy and I commend you for a few of the saves you made last year, but you may be a little delusional if you think you are a top notch keeper because you go to the gym a few times prior to the event and do not play the rest of the year. Didn't someone else take your goal kicks? Distribution is a big part of being an all around goalkeeper.

My list
1. JD
2. Diakiw
3. Michael
4. Evan
5. Jonah

The Afghanistan keeper was good last year, but don't think he is returning. Mitch on ES is solid. Tristan is a beast, what happened to him? I don't know this Peto guy. Is Kevin from Yorkton playing? Lots of good, technical keepers out there that are tough to score on.

I think Canada will have a solid chance to win with JD in net. Not that I don't think Sudan can win again with Noor, because obviously they did last year.

This is what happens when Collins doesn't put one of his "buddies" on a list.

Riggs

Anonymous said...

Riggs you hit the nail on the head. I 100% completely agree with you about Noor. The guy can't make up his mind. It's irritating.

1. His distribution sucks. If you can't distribute the ball properly and you have weak distribution skills there is no point in being a goal keeper. His throws were just plain bad last year. Maybe you need to lift some weights and practice some technique.

2. If someone is taking your goal kicks, you are clearly not capable of properly kicking the ball. You also have to keep in mind that you are drawing out one of your defenders and you have one less option to pass to. Very easy to figure out and adjust to.

3. Noor size and height. He clearly lacks the size and height to make the great saves you see from other goal keepers. He short and most players try to chip it over him or shoot high.

These are just a few things I noticed.

So many better goal keepers than Noor.

Keep putting your buddies on the list Mike, it causes less issues. So many people get all over excited and get their panties in a knot over silly little things. Give me a break and settle down. CHILL OUT.

My prediction ... Sudan fails to make it to the finals. Laos wins the wcp this year.

Anon 9:10 nailed it. There's a term that gets thrown around "No Net Worth Know It All's". People that talk a lot about how to get rich, but they don't own a thing and are broke themselves. Seems to be a lot of that going on here. A lot of players that have probably never even competed at a college/university/provincial teams level or even Div. 1/2 men's at any position or people that have never played in goal to understand how the position is played that talk all this #$%& about other players as if they are some kind of authority. Example: The guy talking about how most of the shots are shot right at Noor. Have you ever considered that maybe Noor is just good at angles and positioning? Diving should be a last resort and GK's are often put in that position because they are at a poor angle or have made some other mistake. Also, trash talking about size? There are plenty of decent GK's that do just fine that are shorter. Nestor Siquenza when he still played seemed to cover the goal ok? Guys like Jorge Campos played in World Cups for the Mexico National team and he was 5'6". Federico Valentini was 5'5" and played for San Marino for a long time. Surely they had someone taller than that that could play? Being tall doesn't make you a good goalkeeper. Look at Joseph Otitoju. He's fairly big but couldn't catch a cold and is awful.

I haven't seen Noor play much so I have no clue if he is good or bad, but I would assume he's far from the worst GK in the tournament. And the guy has won the tournament. Something 99% of the current players have never done.

Anonymous said...

Joseph Otitoju plays better angles than Noor Mitri. Joseph still plays at a high level in DIV 3. Noor's garbage and can't even keep balls out of a quarter field net. Anon: 10:33 you talk alot of nonsense man. Why do people that have no idea post on here?
