Women's Group B

Scotland (Last year: 2nd overall) - I picked Scotland to win the whole thing last year and they made it to the final with a team stacked with current and former U of R players. Depth was maybe their biggest issue as they ran a short bench and a physical final against Germany was too much to overcome. They seem to have remedied this by recruiting a few collegiate teammates/goal scorers from other teams… poor El Salvador.

USA (Last year: Last in Group A) - Generally speaking, bad attitudes and no work ethic plus a lack of basic soccer skills will prevent USA from ever becoming a contender.

Hungary (Last year: DNP) - Pretty much a U20 club team, Hungary could earn three wins in an easy group because of technical skill and coaching. However with some young players who are easily rattled, their downfall could be playing against women’s teams that will be more physically aggressive. May also be missing a few key players due to injuries.

Northern Ireland (Last year: DNP) - A division four women’s team who I’ve heard are in it for fun… Good for them. Hopefully they have fun not winning any games.

Portugal (Last year: 4th in Group A) -  A couple of decent players/workhorses may be enough to get some wins in this group. Would definitely benefit from a coach, if they don’t already have one.

Ukraine (last year top 4) - Ukraine is the team that just never goes away and will have no problem advancing out of this group. Rumors of a few Saskatoon pick-ups and a couple young players will help rejuvenate this group of solid vets who play together year round.

 Predictions

1.       Scotland
2.       Ukraine
3.       Hungary
4.       Portugal
5.       USA
6.       N. Ireland

First and second place will be determined by one game in this group: Scotland vs. Ukraine. It won’t even matter how many dozens of goals they score against the rest of the teams.

Women's Predictions? Really Collins? Does anyone actually care about the women's divisions? I would rather watch the youth play. The women's games suck. Very slowing boring soccer to watch.

Anonymous said...

Yes. Some ppl care. If you don't like the games don't watch, and if you don't like the predictions don't read them. Thank you Mike for making the effort to add women's predictions. There are ppl who appreciate it!

Ha ha ha what and idiot ^^ some womens soccer is slow but there are also good teams in this tournament. Just as not all the mens teams are great to watch. Rather than being sexist.. be quite. Don't like watching the womens side? Great, the don't.

I hate when all people do is complain. Start your own blog if you think you can do better. From playing against Mike Collins the past few years, I'm not a fan of him. But I appreciate the time he puts in and the crap he puts up with. If your criticism/comments aren't constructive at all, keep it to yourself.

Well that compliment was slightly back-handed but I will take it.

I think that this blog is cool. I like the info. on it. What I don't like is all the rubbish talk about this player and that player. If you can't say anything positive about people, then don't say anything at all. People go out and play their best. Some teams are weak, we all know that. That doesn't mean they don't belong in the tournament. Every year, you see teams fold etc. Get over it. Come and celebrate and cheer for a team you like. There is no need for personal attacks. I'd like to think we live in a good city here in Regina. Every year, people come on here and talk trash about others. Is that all you Regina folk do ... trash talk other people. Some of you live sad lives. Stop the attacks on people. Say something positive about individuals and teams. Help them grow and take something from what you say. I know a lot of people will appreciate the positive comments. You never see people being like great job to this player or that player often on here. Sometimes people make mistakes out there. Be sympathetic, encourage people to keep going. Good luck to all the teams.

Anon 21:00 you are spot on my friend. Everything you said is right. So right that I want to give a few players the respects and spot light they deserve.

1. Gordie Peever: Will have an outstanding tournament. I think will be in the running for MVP.
2. Craig Hodel: Best athlete in the tournament. Speed, agility, and sheer athleticism and talent.
3. Mike Collins: classy,classy, classy.
4. Little Nathan Reis: A bit undersized but plays will a lot of heart and determination. Huge heart, massive effort.
5. David Brown: Fit as a fiddle. Should consider being an underwear model with that physique.

Anon: 21:15 I hope your joking.

Collins and Brown are the only two guys worth mentioning.

Give your head a shake.

Collins isn't even worth mentioning. Technically the guy lacks the fundamentals. If it wasn't for his dirty tackles, he wouldn't be a "REGINA SUPERSTAR"

Fit as a fiddle Brown HAHAHA I'd pay serious money to watch him and Craig Hodel compete for the best athlete award.

Mike Collins a "REGINA SUPERSTAR". I think I just wet myself laughing so hard.

Hey, call your picks, w/e, and yeah, you do have knowledge about the teams no doubt. But to discourage a new team such as Northern Ireland women's, and USA women's. Yeah, definitely not a great showing last year for USA. That being said, no one here is being paid to play. Everyone in fact pays to play in this tourney. Save your criticism for professional athletes. There is no tourney if there is no teams.

This new N. Ireland team are a bunch of girls that should only be playing only be playing div. 4. They have no sense of direction and hardly any skill. What was their coach thinking...or feeling sorry for the bunch? Wow!

Anonymous said...

Hey Anon 15:25. They may not be the most skilled bunch but at least they are trying! There are a lot less women in the sport than men in Regina so obviously there is not a lot of areas to pull players from. The fact that they are trying to make a run for it this year is awesome! Good on them! Hopefully they will cause some upsets in they're group. Also good on them for not being discouraged to put in a team even though there are jack holes like you who try to discourage them and other teams! I bet you dont even play and are just running your mouth anyways....

I guess with players they could have picked up they just just ended up with 3 women who actually have skill but the rest not a chance. Just a bunch o girls that have big mouths that can talk the talk but will never walk the walk.

Anonymous 15:25... "That should only be playing only be playing".. I can hear you stuttering.

Stop making a fool of yourself and repost when you can string together a proper sentence. Dumbass.

SO!!! Who all saw Portugal and El Salvador get detroyed so far????? Those 2 teams are made up primarily of Women's Div 2 and higher! Northern Ireland are made up of Women's Div 3 and 4 players and played MUCH better soccer and lost 6-1 (and the score didn't even properly reflect the game). Before anyone goes off running their mouths about why lower div women should not be a part of this tournament, get your facts straight and give you head a shake!!!....I'm looking at you Anon 15:25! At least they didn't give up half way through the game or sooner like other teams have!!!
