Women's Group A

Germany (Last year: 1st overall) - I’ve heard Germany took a step back from the intense training schedule they ran last year. I even heard they were not going to enter a team and “go out on top,” but I’m glad this isn’t the case. A good balance of experience and youth plus the best goal-scorer in the tournament should be enough to get them out of the group, and they are way too competitive to not want a repeat.

El Salvador (Last year: 3rd in Group A) - ES lost out in the player transfer sweepstakes. They have filled their roster with some decent youth players but will be hard-pressed for a win in this year’s group of death. Still can’t wrap my head around why they would select Poland…. Maybe the elusive “out of town players” they have talked about for years will show up and shock us all.

Poland (Last Year: Top 4 Overall) -  A couple new pick-ups have solidified their roster with depth in every position and a nice balance of finesse players and grinders. In a group where every game is going to matter the biggest question mark is whether their out of town players show up or not. If the “A team” doesn’t show up look for losses to anyone in this pool and a very disappointing result for Poland in this tournament.

Holland (Last Year: 3rd in Pool B) - Since entering the tournament Holland has been a consistently good team capable of upsets, but hasn’t been able to advance from the group stage. Unless their roster has changed drastically this year will be no different, but with most of their players coming from out of town it’s hard to know and they very well could be the sleeper in this pool.

Ireland (Last Year: 4th in Pool B) - A team I don’t know much about but they played some competitive games last year. Look for them to do the same but lose to teams with more depth and organization.

Canada (Last Year: Last in Group B) - They seem to be playing a lot of exhibition games but results have been mixed and I really don’t know what to expect from this team. A strong core of players moved over from last year’s Portugal but I’m not sure if they have a solid enough team from top to bottom to better their results as new-look Canada.

Predictions

1.       Germany
2.       Poland
3.       Holland
4.       Canada
5.       Ireland
6.       El Salvador

This group could get very messy with several legitimate contenders and teams who could pull “upsets” if anyone decides to take the day off.

Collins is scum. I don't even know how many reckless challenges he has made and continues to make regularly. What I hate most about the guy is that when he gets his due and someone stiffs him, he complains and whines. If you are going to dish it out, you should at least be able to take it and be prepared to have someone bring the pain your way.

I hope the high ticket prices cover Collins getting his due.

I would give a standing ovation to see that. Overdue and well deserved.

Mike, since you're proofreading the comments already, why not make a personal decision as to whether they are relevant or not. Ask yourself the question of if it seriously adds to, or has the potential to add to, some sort of discussion. If not, it's most likely some troll and the comment is completely useless. If it has a bit of humor in it, fine, let it be published, but when its meaningless troll comments like anon 20:05 why not just deny the comment? It's not at all funny. It doesn't add to discussion. And no sane person believes the "personal signature" is genuine. Save us all the time of skipping passed it. No one will even know you denied it except the troll him/herself. I trust your judgement enough to know a useful comment from garbage.

I think the above comment forgot the "KH"

Biggest cry baby in the tournament has definitely got to be Mike Collins. Dishes it out but can't take it when someone better gives it to him.

In the past we have been quick to point the finger at Saskatoon players for being the cause of all the insults and trash talking that occur on this site. Although these players did play a part in fueling some of the comments that have been present on this site in previous years, those persona's are notably absent and this useless trash talking continues. I really have to ask the question about who would continue to hide behind the anonymity and continue to run their mouths.

I really think guys like Math Leung, Kirk Evans, Gord Peever, Craig Hodel and Mike Collins are the main culprits behind these comments. I also have a feeling that some females players, such as Karlen Hearuf, are also at fault. I suggest that you either post your name and take credits for your comments or stop being a nit-wit.

I guarantee people would say these things to Collins face, because they already have. He knows he's an idiot. I've heard so many things about the guy at the games. He knows people don't like him.

As for this Karlen person, like who are you? I'm guessing some female player who thinks she is too good?

Peter is your suggestion that I am coming on here and anonymously bashing myself?

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't put it past you. Create attention by bashing yourself and then posting it. It is a clever tactic to mislead the readers to thinking that you are getting bashed. Unfortunately I think you may lack the brain power to pull something like that off.

Peter you make some very valid points. I agree with you bud. This blog would be an epic fail without the trash talking garbage. Collins wants the attention. That much is clear.

Who is this Pete character?

what if all of our comments were actually mike. we are all projected thoughts of one masterminded, diabolical scheme to have thee most controversial blog in WCP history.

Anon: 11:35. Collins is a genius if he's actually the one creating all this anonymous trash talk. I really don't think he's that smart though. Could be one of his multiple buddies on here though. Brown seems like the type of guy who would try and hype this blog up.

Germany is going to win the first game against Poland. Don't get to cocky Poland.

Germany is going to destroy Poland. Poland think they are so good. Like their best player is that goofy looking keeper. Get lost. Everyone else including polish play"dud" are washed up rejects. Germany will take it to them.

The German's will beat Poland. Poland is getting old. They have some players who are very predictable.

I agree with the dude above. Their best player is that Bandula guy in net.

Poland is nothing but a bunch cocky players. That won't get you a win. Have fun loosing against Germany. They think their team is the best team in the group but just wait until someone kick's their ass.
