David's Quarter Final Predictions

France Vs. Nigeria - I think this one is the easiest one to predict. I am going to go with France to advance. Nigeria are fast and skilled but lack goal keeping and consistency. France have yet to really be challenged since there game Vs Sudan they didnt have there full squad, but I still see France handling this game pretty easily. 6-2 France.

Afghanistan Vs. Serbia - Serbia are on a good run of results right now after a shocking defeat to Scotland. They play hard with alot of heart. Serbia will come out full of fight I just dont see them winning. Afghanistan are a skilled team but that is only when there Saskatoon players are there. Josip 4-3 Darko.

Jamaica Vs. ROI - This is a interesting match up. With some ROI players leaving in the off season to join Jamaica. Also with a player joining Jamaica only to rejoin ROI before even making a debut, unbelievable! Jamaica coming off a tough loss in there final game where they lacked offense and ROI crushing there last 2 opponents. Jamaicas luck seems to be coming to an end where as ROI is just starting to find themselves. ROI win 3-0.

Poland Vs. Sudan - A rematch of last years quarter final which Sudan won 2-1 with a late goal in 2nd overtime. Sudan now seem to have there full squad and are once again a team to be feared. But if anyone matches there style of play its Poland. This game will be high paced with some wild challenges. I dont see alot of goals in this one but I do see the outcome the same as the previous year with a Sudan win. 3-2 Sudan.

I have not posted for a couple of weeks, but seeing as how it is playoff time I figured I would comment on our match up against Jamaica. Seeing as how I have not posted for a good while this one will probably be long.

I still am unsure of my availability for the match seeing as how it is a mid week game and I live far away, however, here is what you can expect out of the game...

Jamaica looks very well organized and they have all the pieces of a very good playoff team at WCP.
-They have two very good free kick players (Mike and Dave) and as we all know those can often times be the deciding factor in a game.
-They have experience and confidence on the ball. This stems from Kevin being the best decision maker in the tournament. He may have lost a step from his prime but still thinks the game better than anyone.
-They have very good goal keeping. Jonah is a great shot stopper and one of the best at distributing the ball from the back.
-They have speed at the back with Troy ( I am unsure on spelling) which helps them contain any attacking team.
-They have qualified out of the group of death and did it with a game to spare.
-They did catch a break with Laos missing some important pieces in that huge match up, but I am convinced Jamaica would have won anyway.

For ROI to win the game it will be limiting free kicks and not allowing Jamaica to slow down the pace of the game. For those who watched the Laos vs Jamaica game it was a slow paced game which favoured Jamaica who are not a team built for an up tempo style.

The more uncomfortable you can make Jamaica on the ball and get them to work hard the better chance they will have of losing their shape and conceiding goals.

Collins and Brown have been a huge addition so far for Jamiaca as they have helped them finally qualify after a long while and have been their main offense. In fact, they may have had a hand in every goal scored for them this WCP.

I dont do predictions on games I am playing in so I won't predict a score but do think it is going to be close either way.

One of the more fun side stories is who will the neutral fans cheer for. You have an always hated ROI team playing against a team with Kevin and Jamaica that all neutral supporters used to root for. However enter Mike into the equation who has made many an enemy along the way and you have a team that many nuetrals were starting to cheer against.

In fact the hate for Mike really showed during the Laos vs Jamaica game. I think Afghan guys were cheering for Laos even though Chico had left their team to play for Laos just because Mike was now on Jamaica.

Dare I say this might be a game that neutral fans really wish was not happening and wish no one would win?

I also have to say I would love to say good work to Chico as he may have set the record in that Jamaica game for the most hair styles in one match in WCP history. I believe he had 4 different styles in one game.

I also would love to give a shout out to Portugal player James for asking if Stew was actually my dad. Just because we both have shaved heads it does not make him my dad.

Good luck to all in the quarters.

DG

I think Laos are still favourites to win

One interesting note. Laos tied France with +/- goal at 20.00 and allowed 2nd lowest goal at 5 behind France's 3. With all these stats, Laos didn't move on. It showed how competitive Group B was.

Yeah, Dwayne, you and Stew have "shaved heads".

Do you shave your head by choice dg?

If ROI loses to Jamaica I know for a fact that alfie will pull out his belt and whoop that Lee kid in front of the crowd

A couple things to note:

1) Ireland will not advance past the Quarterfinals. They were in the weakest pool, and had some absolutely poor performances during the round robin. If they were in any other pool, they would be sitting and watching from the bleachers.
2) Laos is finally out. Why do people talk about how superior this team is? The players on this team including their coach walk around like they are the best shit in town. Give me a break. Chico, maybe you need to learn to pass the ball, sub off once or twice. Soccer a team game, not an individual game. Adding you was a big downfall for Laos. Laos, learn that you aren't all that. Your Saskatoon players did squat. The hype is over. Idiots who picked Laos to win can go cry now.
3) If we aren't going to have linesman, at least let the teams practice prior to games starting on the back fields. Baseball, football, and all this other shit is getting quite annoying.
4) Canada, Laos, Scotland, Hungary ... Why aren't you clowns posting anymore. Maybe because you didn't advance. You all talked it up. SUCKERS!!!!!!

I am willing to put a 100 dollar bounty on anyone that spanks Lee Mooney during the game.

Give props to all teams that moved on to the next round. DB doesn't matter wether u think some teams are superior and others are not, just be great full that this time many teams steeped up their play and all that made it out deserve full credit. Am hoping its the start of a new era in wcp history that not one team or two will be dominating it yr. after yr.. Good luck to all and looking forward to some good games

I thought Canada was supposed to have the best keeper that everyone kept talking about. Some JD character? Collins/Brown you guys make all these predictions and pick all these guys and somehow these top teams don't make it? It's frustrating. So many missed players.

France wins 5-2
Afghanistan wins 4-3
Jamaica wins 5-1
Sudan wins 3-2

The biggest shit show in the tournament was Laos. They all thought they were going to advance. Second biggest shit show was Scotland. Those duds couldn't string together 3 passes if they tried, yet they talked it up like the were going to advance.

Brown have you been smoking up again? Did you even watch the Sudan vs Italy game? It was 3-0 for Sudan and Italy had way more chances to win that game. Italy out played Sudan. If Italy had guys who could finish, they would have kept it close or even won.

Anonymous said...

Did you put 3-0 for ROI so you can suck up to your friends Brown? What's your deal? You don't want to take any heat for your lame analysis? Get it together.

Why are people kidding themselves. Norway is the best team in the tournament. They were missing their awesome Saskatoon and Winnipeg players. No one will touch them next year. They are untouchable.

Why does Mat L. not post with his name? People Mat is The Joker and has always been. This dud is posting again now that Laos is out.

Who cares Mat!! You are a coward and absolutely brutal at soccer!!!

Also I have no desire to spank Lee Mooney as I find that to be the behavior of a hair dresser!

Brown we should smoke up together sometime. I didn't know you liked the good stuff my friend.

Anonymous said...

Why don't some of you high level soccer players from Regina come to S'toon for our World Cup...even Barnstone? Oh wait...the 4 of them already do.

Anonymous said...

Hahahahahah I don't 'smoke up' ! So I will have to politely turn down that offer.

New Era of WCP? Yea I highly doubt much will change.
1. Sudan are the reigning champs and have a chance to repeat.
2. ROI is now two teams and they both made the final 8.
3. France is France.

There are only a few real contenders in this event and that won't change any time soon. The next wave of talent is not knocking on the door any time soon. Sorry Scotland, you guys are brutal and will never ever be contenders.

Lol look at these coward anon haters (at 8 April 2013 15:03 and 8 April 2013 15:59) coming out of bushes after Laos not moving on. Look at the group stats, Laos had tied France with +/- goal at 20.00 and allowed 2nd lowest goals at 5 behind France's 3. Also Laos tied Jamaica with 25 goals in second place to Serbia's 26 goals. To me or to the majority of people, Laos is one of the top teams.

Anonymous said...

Laos, who the heck is Laos. Last I checked they didn't even make it past the round robin.

Anonymous said...

you have to realize that the majority of the goals laos scored were on n.ireland and n.korea. inflated stats to say the least.

Anonymous said...

Stats can easily mislead the reader depending how they are portrayed.

For example:
Laos was -1 against teams ahead of them in the standings and only managed to capture 1 out of a possible 6 points against the top two teams in the group.

Anonymous said...

Agreed Anon 20:26. Laos is over-rated. Nah nah nah, nah nah nah, hey, hey, hey, goodbye.

Anonymous said...

Why are we even talking about Laos. Last I checked those fools were out. They all needed a reality check. They all thought they were so gooooooooooooooddddddddddddd. Reality check for those fools. NUGGGEEEETTTSSS!!!!!!!!

I want to see Alvi come and play in Vancouver. He'll get cut, and put in Div 7. I know REC soccer when I see it.

Anonymous said...

I am glad you understand that my mentality is of a rec soccer player. I am impressed. Frankly this tournament is losing it's "wow" factor and becoming more of a nuisance having to hear everyone complain and talk about this event like it is the real world cup or a combine for scouting players.

Flattered, I thought I'd play at least div.8 as when I played in the AMLS I barely made the top ten in goals that year that div.8 is more my speed.

Look at anonymous going at it. Went on another posting spree on their blackberry. You keep this up someone is going to find out who you are. I am starting to wonder if it isn't a chick posting as it wouldn't surprise me at all; that or Matt Leung... comparable to say the least.

France 5-2
Sudan 3-1
Jamaica 2-1
Serbia 3-2

Good luck to the remaining eight.

France will have a tougher time against Nigeria than people think. Will they lose? "shoot" no, but I'm saying 3-2 France.

Serbia: THEY'RE quite skilled, but unfortunately for them Afghanistan looked even better when THEIR Huskies were THERE. The crowd will get a "Kick" out of this game. I've got Afghanistan 4-3 (possible shootout). (DB, that lesson was free, the next one will cost you) ;-)

On paper, ROI has one of the most feared lineups in the tournament. What sucks "balls" for them is that the tournament is played on a surface that resembles turf, not paper. Jamaica 5-3

And finally, the last game of the night is Sudan v. Poland. Poland has the edge in net, and on Defence. They are tied up the middle, and Sudan has a big edge on offence. Poland hasn't gotten over that loss last year and are looking for revenge larger than that of the Titans, Sith, and Nerds. Poland 2-1

DB, I will write your papers for you if you finish the ball for me? Deal? RESPECT
