You guys are lucky to win, Botwana should of won, your defense is weak
Any defense would be weak when they are being attacked 5-3... with that being said how many goals did Botswana score? Thought so. Another quality point by an anonymous guy.
Poland 3 Hungary 1 Germany 2 Hungary 0 Nigeria 6 Hungary 1 Portugal 8 Hungary 2 how do you rank teams when you dont even compare them their games vs the same team and how can put Portugal under Hungary on your standings when they have beat/thumped them 8 to 2 ? some Portugal players have more then 4 goals, how come you dont mentioned them on your list Mr DB? Portugal are not worse every year just because you think so. Portugal had a bad game vs Germany and it could have gone either way with the Germany striker doing well on his strikes, overall Germany did not outplay Portugal, still you place them almost 10 spots apart ? I actually think that you dont watch some of these games. At least be neutral on your views in regards to teams instead of hyping some teams and talking trash about others. It would suit the blog and yourself better, dont you think ? Im sorry that some crazy person is stalking you and others, but if it wasnt for trash talking, none of that would have happened. unfortunately not everybody can take a joke and that is just how it is. stalking is sad !! that is just plain foolish and irresponsible
The goal scoring info comes right from Kevin to Mike, then I voiced my opinion on my predictions as I called 3 top scorers before the tournament. So having 4 goals and not being on the list has nothing to do with me!
The Nigeria Hungary game was only 4-3 for Nigeria but okay Portugal fan. Germanys better than u guys so accept it. Hungary played tight games against 3 top teams then shit the bed against u guys so good job u guys won one game (not counting Vietnam). And David Browns an amazing soccer player so don't beak him. If he was in the tourney he'd score more goals than ur whole Portugal team!
Hey Mike and Blog Gang : ) I just wanted to take a second and say "Thanks" ...I know it takes time and effort to maintain a blog like this and I appreciate the entertainment! I think it adds charm to the tournament and I look forward to checking in and seeing what everyone is chatting about! Looking forward to the last week of the tournament and some more great soccer! Keep up the awesome work guys...know that it is appreciated! Astrid
Seems a bit odd to say a team that lost a game 8-2 (Botswana vs. ROI) should have won. It's like getting 2 numbers correct on Lotto 649 and saying you should have won the lottery.
I didn't see the game, but someone one tactical error could have changed the pace of a game. Saying they "should" have won would imply something screwed them. I'm sure this is more of a case of "could" have won if they did something a little different or better.
A lot to cover from a busy weekend, a lot of question were answered, but also a lot of questions now loom. We will start with Group A and work downwards: 1. ROI managed to win all their matches although the Sunday match was in question. A long night and a short bench led many people to wonder what type of outing ROI would have; but ROI buckled down and did what was needed to win. A few ugly games for ROI this weekend, hopefully that trend doesn’t continue moving forward. Sudan vs Serbia was a surprising result. I did not watch the match, yet I was surprised to see the score line. Rumblings are that Sudan believes they are the best team in the tournament, but with a poor outing vs Poland… bye bye Sudan. 2. I didn’t see Canada coming out of the group after a loss to Jamaica; talk about buckling down and taking care of business. Big wins this weekend, and exciting game vs Afghan that Canada looks like a team to make it to the semis. A big quarter final game against France waits, but that should be one of the best quarter final games. I think Laos showed that they may not be as strong as people have hyped them to be, that ES vs Laos should be a tough match up and I see ES coming out with a narrow win. Too bad Afghan didn’t bring their full team vs Laos as who knows what the result would have been. 3. I was sure that Nigeria would be through after another last minute goal by the super eagles, but David Patterson’s “howler” managed to scrape Germany through to the next round. Such a heartbreaking loss for Nigeria that I feel their pain, now Germany will face ROI for what will prove to be an interesting game. Germany has some talented players and some size, that they should match up well vs an ROI team that has similar attributes. Poland keeps their hype alive as they won a closely contested group, I am interested to see how Poland fares vs Sudan, but I am really cheering for Poland to come through with a win… maybe a Jay Tomchuk game winner to sick cele with the Polish faithful! 4. You know you are in a crazy group when a team entering its final game could either end up 1st or 4th. ES had a tough weekend, and they did what many thought was not possible, beat France and beat Norway. ES showed some great goals from Jerson and Riggs, but really showed a lack of depth at times as well. I expect ES and Laos to be a tight game, and watch for Laos to take advantage of ES if they don’t match up well all game. Respect has to be given to Norway as their magical streak of play-off runs has finally been snapped.
Predictions: ROI vs Germany: Winner ROI - Germany has some good players but will they have enough good players to match up to ROI. Expect this to be a physical game that is contested well into the second half when ROI has an outbreak and score a goal to seal the game. Poland vs Sudan: Winner Poland - I frankly don’t like Sudan’s style of play, its straight long ball after long ball. I think if Poland can pressure Sudan’s wings backs, Sudan will cough up the ball to Jay Tomchuk who will have a big game. I expect this be a close game, with chances at both ends. I am hoping Poland gets the win, so I will chose them as my winner in this match up. Canada vs France: Winner Canada - Canada seems to be on a roll right now. It doesn’t matter what team they are faced to play, they manage to get a win. Both teams have some size, and both teams have some skill, yet watching France and Canada play this weekend; Canada just looks like a side that is firing on all cylinders right now. I see this game going into OT, if not a shoot-out, but Canada will walk away with the narrowest of wins. ES vs Laos: Winner Laos - Laos is fast and skilled and have some size at the back; and ES is very similar. Watching Laos play they only have a few players that are not up to par with the rest; while ES has a few more that seem to play a lot more than they should. Some of ES’s players are over achieving, while others like Ronnie have yet to break out this tournament. Expect a big game from Ronnie, and for ES’ weakness to show throughout this game. I see this coming down to the wire, possibly a shoot-out where I would give the edge to Laos.
On a side note, Botswana did have a 2-1 lead when I was watching. A weak team like Botswana should never be beating a team like ROI at any point. Doesn't matter what the circumstances are. Additions like Julio were supposed to be solid back there and have been hyped up all tournament long. ROI defense is anything special, Julio isn't anything special lol. ROI will no win this tournament. That was weak. I didn't think ROI defense was all that good anyways. Get rid of that defense line and upgrade next year.
Can't say much when you're losing to a team like Botswana. 5-3 or whatever, no excuse. If you ROI guys didn't notice, Botswana had 8 guys on the pitch when they went up 2-1 lol, they didn't realize they had one short. Good try though Julio. Regardless of the end result, you can't really defend your so called skills here.
1 in my opinion the best 8 teams made the 1/4 finals. Afghan, Norway, Serbia (the team that showed up for Sudan), Nigeria, and maybe Jamaica could post a result against these teams, but overall the top 8 teams advanced.
2 Serbia vs Sudan was by far the most entertaining game of the tournament. Neither team had anything to play for, but played like it was the final in front of a small crowd. Serbia lead most of the match and went up 4-3 with little time on the clock. Sudan scored a cracking goal to tie it with 2 minutes left, then slid home a nice one after a scramble for the win. I personally think Sudan us more skilled than people give them credit for, but thus result shows that Poland can definitely beat them if they play well.
3. after watching several boring games on the weekend, I think they clearly should go with the DG top 12/bottom 12 idea. Imagine if every game had the atmosphere of the last 3 Saturday and last 2 Sunday. Then EVERY game would matter and be exciting. It could even be top 16, bottom 8, so 4 pools of 4.
4. Portugal fan, this is a blog and the rankings mc and DB gave mean nothing but their opinion. What difference dies it make if someone places them at 14, or 16? Unless you are competing for a playoff spot who cares??
5. This will be the first team that 9 trans made the 1/4s as dufus proclaimed Norway as quarterfinalists after es lost to Italy. Rumor has it they are making off a triangle shaped field so that they can slip into the France/Canada game making it an epic first time ever, 3 way battle. Kevin is still trying to sort out all the rule changes for the game, but it should be a good treat for fans. Especially all of us Norway fans!
6. I'm having a great time at the tournament, it's a lot of fun seeing all the teams out partying together after hours. Shout out to Meshke for having us over with no invite. Shout out to Derek (kilt guy) and all the faithful fans from each team (sorry I'm having a DG moment). I'm looking forward to the playoffs and the festivities afterwards.
Ps DB Darko is mad at you, he wants props for his 5 (now 6) goals. He's even performing for you on your fantasy team. Maybe you should give him a special write up to make it up to him. I'm pretty sure he scored a backheel goal vs Sudan, something I know you would appreciate.
Weak defender? Debatable. I actually see Julio as defensive midfielder or outside midfielder as he has some very good balls skills and good distribution. I was surprised at the quality of crosses and shooting he displayed yesterday vs. Scotland. Low driven crosses from 25-30 yards out with accuracy, nice player. Really makes me wonder what people in Regina view when they watch games? Overweight? Possibly about 10lbs heavy by the looks of things but who really trains to get into shape for this tournament. I see him and Nate being mainly muscle, but both could drop 10lbs if they actually trained and wanted to. Guys like Anibal Bravo are overweight with no muscle mass yet he rolls up his sleeves to show how jacked he is. What a joke!
Answering your question, it's the guys that have chirped me and couldn't leave their names behind. They know who they are, one is also a former ES player. So I'll leave the rest to you guys to figure out. They come on the blog and chirp anonymously and think people will never find out. It is what it is, and they know who they are.

Karl gave Germany a victory over Nigeria what a brutal ref he's turning out to be, theyve been a couple of bad refs it's killing the tournament
Poland sucks with Alex. No chance he would be on this team if it wasn't for his father, Marek. - such a dufus!

aos play they only have a few players that are not up to par with the rest, look at ROI pretty much the same you got that Landon kid on your team
