Best of the Day - Wednesday

Here is my first Best of the Day. Enjoy

Game:Jamaica vs N. Ireland. Although all the games I saw were pretty good this one was far and away the best. It had everything you could ask for. An underdog getting a result, a gazillion missed opportunities, and several lead changes. Jamaica really dominated the play but N. Ireland managed to finish their "chances". Very entertaining.

Team: Northern Ireland. Not sure if they actually had a particular strategy other than to throw their bodies in front of everything. Must be a couple ball marks on players bodies today. I salute the bravery.

Player: Garrett Peters (Jamaica) - Scored to fantastic headers to put Jamaica in a position to win that game. Not his fault that no one besides Troy, Kevin decided to do anything out there.

Goal: Garrett Peters (Jamaica) - Both his headers were beauties. Crossed in hard he rose, met them well and managed to keep them down. Came a crucial time for Jamaica so that makes them that much more impressive.

Save: Germany U18 Boys Keeper - Made a great save on a sizzling free kick. Not only did he save but managed to palm it over the net instead of pushing it back into trouble. Very De Gea-esque.

Gaffe: Their were so many that I don't know where to begin. I guess the worst was Flavio allowing a free kick in from the opposing teams half to lose that game.  Just completely misjudged it.

Then there is Jamaica. Where to start umm..... unnecessary balls in the air. Overrunning their target man constantly. Their shooting in general. The worst had to have been their goal keeping though. On the last goal the keeper decided to leave his net to go in search of a ball he was never going to get too. Ended up costing Jamaica the game.

Use of Handbags: Two players in the U18 Division decided to get out their handbags and partake in a dainty little pushing match which ultimately ended in the Ukraine player, rather idiotically, kicking the German player for all to see. Take it from someone who has done a lot of stupid things in their time. You look foolish.

Peeve: There is no way Colombia should have had a goal called back. No one I spoke with could give me a reason why and I don't think anyone I talk to will ever be able too. That was a potential game changer.

The Colombian player hit Evan just before the shot

thats why those u-18 players are playing in that division, there not good enough for mens so they play in that division and shows the quality of players they are.

Evan made the contact by trying to go through the guy to get to the ball then just missed the ball.

Ya that's because the attacker was pushin on Evan

To Anon 13:43. It's actually within the rules that U18 division players can also play in the Men's division. A lot of them play both...and in some cases some choose to play with guys their own age (would rather play on a good team than a bottom feeder men's team). While yes, there are some bad U18s in that division the number of good players in that division that could take spots off some of the weak teams is just as high.

Germany U18 boys keeper made some amazing saves in the game vs Ukraine. He's also keeper for the men's team Scotland and made some incredible saves there too. He's small but very skilled.

I agree with Anon 14:06. Lots of these kids are good enough to play both and do.

I would have to agree with you in regards to the Jamaica/N.Ireland game. Even though Jamaica controlled the game, N.Ireland (atleast the first half), capitalized on their chances and thought for sure they would pull away with the win. Jamaica kept pooring it on and finally got some some of their shots to past the goal line. If N.Ireland keeps playing like they did, might not look good for them in next couple of games. I did see the keeper make a few nice saves in the 1st half to keep them in the game...Jamaica could of up by a few if it wasnt for him....but teams that advance need an all around balanced team and i dont think they are there yet...Kudo's to both teams as it was an exciting game to watch..way to come back and get a tie Jamaica

I saw the whole thing There was no contact between the Colombian player and Evan the Colombian plaer didnt even move he just stood there awful call

Without alcohol, I watched the game too. I saw the Colombian player push the Laos goalie's back before the shot was taken. If not, why didn't the Colombian team swarm the ref a long time with protest. Instead, it looked like the ref talked to the Colombian player(shaved head) who appeared to admit his guilt and the ref's call wasn't argued any further by Colombia.

Just like in any division of soccer, top teams are always in favor and won't loose games coz of refs, there was no foul on Evan,
